Thanks for the article! Is great and I totally agree the the direct contact is more productive and support better a relation.
But what are we doing with the managers trained to avoid the phone and work/communicate via e-mail for more efficiency(not long time ago was this "fashion") and not necessary with them, but with their N-1 which will be "educated" to work in the same way?
And to be the evil's advocate - what about the cutting the costs?

Thanks for the article. This is a great rule which is worth implementing. I sometimes find myself sucked into the game of cyber tennis. For now on, I'm gonna cut it short!

Cathy! This is so true! I think people try to substitute human communication amd abusing email. We could solve problems and exchange info in a more productive and faster way if we would pick the phone and call another person. Great topic and thank you.

What a great topic! If only everyone would abide by this rule! Not only does this promote a better team working enviornment and more acceptance in the workplace, but a much higher level of customer service as well.

Cathy, great post and I couldn't agree more. Email has become a venue of choice for passive/aggressive exchanges. Another pet peeve: when you try to call the person who is emailing you so you can end the ridiculous email exchange and have a productive conversation, and you know they are sitting at their desk b/c they are still sending emails, but they won't pick up the phone!
